About & Contact

Author. Broadcaster. Adventurer. Vicar.

Hello, and welcome.

I’m Matthew Cashmore, a parish priest in the Church of England serving in the beautiful countryside of South Devon. Alongside parish ministry, I write, travel, broadcast, and explore the stories that emerge when faith meets everyday life.

Over the years I’ve worn a number of hats. I’ve worked for the BBC, helped develop digital publishing and broadcasting projects, travelled extensively across Europe, Australia, the US, and beyond by motorcycle, appeared in the BBC series A Vicar’s Life, and written and spoken about faith, technology, culture, and adventure. Through all of those experiences runs a common thread: a fascination with people, their stories, and the ways in which God is at work in the world.

Today my ministry is rooted in parish life, but my work and interests continue to take me far beyond the church porch. Whether I’m preaching on a Sunday, interviewing someone for a media project, writing from a campsite, or crossing a mountain pass on a motorbike, I remain convinced that the most interesting journeys are often the ones that change us from within.

Two Holy Bikers

In the summer of 2026, my friend Rev’d Dan Beesley and I will undertake an 8,600km motorcycle pilgrimage across Europe, visiting some of the continent’s most important Christian shrines and sacred places.

Travelling through Poland, the Balkans, Italy, Spain, Portugal and France, we’ll be exploring faith, friendship, pilgrimage, and the spiritual geography of Europe. The journey forms the basis of my forthcoming book, Two Holy Bikers, due for publication in 2027.

You can follow the journey, read updates from the road, and learn more about the project throughout this website.

Writing, Broadcasting & Storytelling

Long before I was ordained, I was fascinated by the power of stories. That fascination led me into broadcasting, publishing, and digital media, and it continues to shape much of what I do today.

Whether writing an article, appearing on television, speaking at an event, or documenting a journey from the roadside of a distant country, I am drawn to stories that reveal something deeper about faith, hope, community, and what it means to be human. Some of those stories emerge in parish ministry, some on pilgrimage, and others through conversations with remarkable people encountered along the way.

This website brings many of those strands together. Here you’ll find reflections on faith, accounts of adventure and pilgrimage, thoughts on the changing world of media and technology, and occasional observations from the often surprising life of a parish priest. While the subjects may vary, they are all part of the same search: understanding how God is at work in the world and how our stories connect with his greater story.

Life Beyond the Keyboard

When I’m not serving in the parish, you’ll often find me travelling with my wife Catherine and our son Edmund, planning the next pilgrimage, reading far too many books, or loading camping gear onto a motorcycle and heading for the horizon.

This website is home to my writing, adventures, reflections, and projects. I hope you find something here that encourages, challenges, or inspires you.

Thank you for visiting.

Matthew
